8 Mistakes You Can Make While Planning For A Travel

Planning for a trip is a complicated ordeal. There are so many things to think about and so much advice to implement that you often get lost on your way. But essentially, all you want to do is enjoy and have fun.

There are, of course, a lot of mistakes that you can make that could cost you money or your good time.

1. You are not booking your flight at the right time

The best time for booking flights is about two months before your trip. So, don't make a mistake of booking too early or too late. Try to avoid booking two weeks before your trip because that is when the rates are the highest.

2. You stick to official accommodation

Sticking to official accommodation is certainly easy. “It's easy to book and it's easy to be in since they offer all of the facilities. But beyond that, there are so many possibilities that you could explore that could give you an even better insight into the culture and let you enjoy your trip even more”, - says Christopher Maldonado, a senior travel editor at State of writing and Bigassignments.

3. You are letting your plans lead you.

Making a carefully crafted plan for your trip is a good idea but you should definitely not let your itinerary lead you. Have fun and stay in one place a bit longer if you like it or stay shorter if that's what works for you. Let go of your plan and actually enjoy your trip without feeling obligated to follow your itinerary.

4. You have packed too much

Packing too many things can only restrain you. Imagine dragging all of your things instead of enjoying the beautiful place you are in. Pack only the essentials instead – this will make your trip a lot better and easier. You might even save some money if you are flying.

5. You haven't learned enough of the language.

You may think that learning a lot of the local language is unnecessary at first – waving your hands and pointing around will be enough, you assume. But learning at least some words can be extremely beneficial. You'll get to communicate with the locals in their own language and that will make them feel appreciated.

Not only that, but your vacation will be much easier if you pick up on a few phrases and even better, try to learn some more while you are there.

6. Booking flights on a wrong day of the week and not in incognito mode.

If you really want to get the best deals, you need to know the ways to get them. Popular information is that the best airplane fares are available on Tuesday and Wednesday but these fares get sold out within hours. Set up daily fares alerts so that you can get the best deals no matter when they are.

Elma Harner, a travel writer at Australian help comments: “Another mistake that you can make is the one of not browsing for deals in incognito mode. This is a great option on your browser and it enables you to get the best deals. Airlines have a tendency to raise the price of the flight if they see that you have browsed to find a perfect deal for quite a while”.

Do yourself a favor and shop in incognito to get the best fares.

7. You rely too much on your guidebooks

Guidebooks are there to show you wonderful places if you don't have a guide. Most tourists end up purchasing either them or tour guide services. And this is a good thing, for the beginning. They give you the maps and all the necessary tools to get to the most popular places. But that's as far as they'll go.

They have so many mistakes in them and even more importantly, omissions. So many wonderful places don't even get to be in the books. This is why you should rely on something else for guidance.

8. You have too many activities in one trip.

This is one of the most common mistakes. Since you may feel like you'll get to see a certain destination only once, you pack as many different activities as possible in just one trip. What you end up doing is either not a time well-spent or you rush all day and you don't get any of that relaxation that you sincerely hoped for.

“Try not to make this mistake. You'll visit that destination again if you end up having fun. Only do those activities that you want to do the most and leave out anything that you want to do less. This is a good way to save money as well”, - comments Mary Harris, a Trip planner at Academized.

Conclusion

Traveling is a truly magical thing. The culture, the food, the people – so many things to see and try. Of course, as with everything, there are also mistakes to be made. You have to be careful when booking deals, arriving at the destination and all the time that you are there. There are also cultural differences to think about. But, if you really want to enjoy your trip, there are always things that you can do to avoid those mistakes and have fun.
