An escape to the countryside in the oldest wine region of Australia located just 2 hours north of Sydney will see you visiting wineries, vineyards, having a taste of quality wines and gourmet food, dining at nice restaurants and having an excellent time unwinding. Here’s a selection of things you must experience in Hunter Valley:

Wine Tasting

Home to acclaimed wineries, Hunter Valley produces some of the best wines in the world, namely the Hunter Valley Semillon, with credit to the rich soils in the area. This wine region has more cellar doors than any other in the country and wine tasting tours are abundant. Choose from a wide range of wineries such as the Scarborough Wine Co, Peterson House, Waverley Estate, Leogate Estate Wines and much more where you can do some wine tasting and bring home some outstanding wines.

Gourmet Delights

Local produce goes well with the wines of Hunter Valley. You can find them at the local restaurants, cafes, food and wine festivals, markets or you can go directly to the speciality stores where they are produced. Gourmet produce includes olive oils, dairy products such as hard-rind and soft cheeses, cured meats such as charcuterie, pate, relishes, chocolate, and even desserts! Check out the Hunter Valley Food and Wine Festival held in May and June every year, or head to shops that do tastings, such as Binnorie Dairy, Hunter Valley Smelly Cheese Shop, Hunter Valley Cheese Company and the Hunter Valley Chocolate Company.

Camping

For those who don’t care that much about accommodation, there are a couple of different holiday parks to choose from if you decide to do some camping in the Hunter Valley area. We have places such as Active Holidays BIG4, Country Acres, Gloucester Holiday Park, and Inland Waters Holiday Parks Lake Glenbawn. Go wherever you want, when you want, and after finishing up with the Hunter region you can always travel the North Coast of NSW.

Hunter Valley Gardens

The Hunter Valley Gardens comprises of more than 60 acres of gardens on display, and more than 8 km of pathways to walk and discover its 10 different feature gardens, each with its own theme such as storybook, rose, sunken, etc. There’s a 35-minute tour on the Hunter Valley Garden Train that provides commentary on the history of the gardens. Also, there is an aqua golf and putt putt course at the gardens. The gardens are also a popular choice for weddings and functions.

Golf

Hunter Valley is home to some local courses as well as golf resorts, catering to players of all experience levels. Hit a few putts in mesmerising surroundings of vineyards in the backdrop. A few notable golf courses in the area are Cypress Lakes Golf and Country Club which is amongst the top in resort courses in the country, Hunter Valley Golf and Country Club and the Vintage Golf Club which are both championship courses.

Day Spas

Relaxation and rejuvenation are two things you can definitely experience when you’re at Hunter Valley. After a long day of wine tasting and gourmet dining, head to spas such as the Reflections Day Spa or Spa Anise, and pamper yourself in a tranquil environment.
