Ultimate Food and Drink Guide to Melbourne

Melbourne might not be the capital of Australia, but it’s definitely its culinary capital, perfect for every foodie out there looking for a great bite and an even better sip. This beautiful city offers practically everything from authentic Asian and European food to innovative cocktails, high-quality wines, unique craft beer and delicious coffee. Here’s where you should go to have your Melbourne eating and drinking experience.

Kaprica

This is for all the pizza lovers out there visiting Melbourne. Kaprica is a place that feels like it’s been ripped out of the streets of Rome and put in Australia. It’s very romantic and authentic and so is their menu. Yes, pasta is great, but wait until you try some pizza. Its thin, crunchy crust and simple yet harmonious toppings are a dream come true for every pizza enthusiast. Kaprica also has amazing wines poured into tumblers for a full Roman experience.

Tonka

Since Melbourne is a true melting pot of nationalities and cultures, especially from Asia, you can expect to see an ever-growing number of amazing and authentic Asian restaurants serving great food. Well, Tonka is one of the best! It serves upscale Indian food, often with a fresh twist, that will completely blow your mind. I, personally, can’t get enough of their lamb curry with roasted coconut!

Lil’ Nomnoms Food Truck

If you see their recognizable black and red truck, don’t hesitate to make a stop and savor their amazing fast food. They concentrate on Vietnamese cuisine and light street food options that will satisfy your hunger for Asian nomnoms. Their steamed bao and banh mi sliders are absolutely amazing! So, stop by and have an authentic Vietnamese snack right in the middle of Melbourne.

The Providore

If you’re all about paddock-to-plate philosophy and cozy atmosphere, then you must visit The Providore. Their passion for fresh produce can be seen as soon as you get your plate and you’ll be able to taste each and every different flavor of ingredients to its fullest. And the way they present their food is more than an amazing Instagram photo opportunity. Plus, they serve my favorite coffee brand – Adore Coffee which they get from the most renowned coffee suppliers in Melbourne. All in all, visiting The Providore is a complete experience, from the first bite of your meal to the last sip of your coffee.

Little Drop of Poison

This little place shouldn’t be skipped, especially if you love a good drop of poison (and by poison, I mean tasty cocktails, unique craft beer and the best Aussie wine). If you can, time your Melbourne visit so it overlaps with their amazing cocktail parties where you can have a huge variety of tasty drinks at very affordable prices. And when you get hungry, satisfy your appetite with a savory McPoison.

Waterfront

If you crave a true Melbourne experience, you mustn’t skip on visiting Waterfront. It’s one of Melbourne’s most famous seafood bars serving only the fresh and high-quality local produce of the sea. They have a strict sea-to-plate policy, and they make daily fish market visits and get only the best catches they can find. If you want to know what you should order, everyone will say a Deluxe Platter. It comes complete with tiger prawns, crab, oysters, scallops and many other local kinds of seafood. Fresh lobster is also to die for.

Steer Dining Room

If you ever wondered if it’s possible to mix modern Australian cuisine and dining with traditional Asian cooking, the answer is yes! And the blend between these two created a unique dining experience in a restaurant called Steer. They focus on fresh and juicy Australian beef (they offer around 20 different cuts of steak) that has a hint of Asian aromas and flavors. You can finish your hearty meal with something sweet and very unique like beetroot sponge cake and goat cheese ice cream.

If this article made you hungry, go ahead and visit Melbourne and fill your belly with some savory food and refreshing drinks.
